The Morning Routine I Didn't Know I Needed

I’m hopping on the blog today to share with you the morning routine I’ve been following for the past couple months!

This is a topic I never saw myself writing a blog on! Truth is? Mornings have never been my favorite time of day. A couple years ago, you could call me a total night owl when it comes to life and business. Before kids, I thrived off working late into the evening. I’ve always admired people who wake up super early… but for the longest time, that just wasn't my cup of tea.

Once I had kids I quickly realized - late work nights aren’t the easiest with kids who get up super early. I used to sleep until my kids woke up, and just get my day started with them, but I found that I never had time to myself. My days felt super chaotic and mornings were rushed.

With baby #3 on the way, and my girls starting school, I realized I needed to make a change in order to preserve my sanity and quiet time.

I now get up earlier than my girls. Although “getting up earlier” was a feat I didn’t want to mess with, it’s given me some peace, quiet, and space that I didn’t realize I was so desperately needing. I now spend my mornings drinking coffee, lighting a candle, reading my devotional, and just enjoying quiet moments before I hear their little feet coming down the stairs. These moments are my fuel to get me through the day, and helps me refocus each morning. The earlier wake-up call has been SO worthwhile for me. Some mornings I have more time alone than others, but making an effort to have some space has been much-needed.

People used to tell me about their early morning routines, and I never understood until now. Those moments have become so precious to me. Motherhood is a huge part of my life, but having personal time to focus on myself helps me show up better for my girls and husband.

The truth is, you can show up better for your clients and family when you prioritize YOU - whether that's time set aside early in the morning or late at night. Building a solid routine to wake up or wind down not only gives you priority, but it sets you up for success.

If you’re struggling to build that perfect morning routine for you, here are a few of my tips!

- You don’t have to wake up super super early on Day 1. Trust me, life will be 10x easier if you ease your way into an early morning! Start with just 30 minutes earlier than you normally would, then move to an hour. When your body feels ready, and if you want to, try earlier!

- Have an activity you do in the morning to create consistency. I mentioned a few of mine above, such as reading and drinking coffee. You might like to meditate, journal, or workout. Choose at least one to start out, and let yourself get into a groove!

- Don’t stress if you can’t make it happen every day. If you’re going to set yourself up for success, you have to give yourself grace. Sometimes my kids are going to wake me up in the middle of the night, or I end up oversleeping accidentally. If that happens, it’s ok. Tomorrow is a new day!

All in all, my morning routine has become my best friend. I hope this can help you find the pace you need for the perfect morning!
